Skyvi – The best Siri equivalent for Android yet!

I’ve tried a few apps that promise to replicate what Siri can do for Iphone 4S users. Unfortunately they have all had their drawbacks in one way or another. Either the voice recognition is lame or the functionality of the app just doesn’t work smoothly. Skyvi unlike its predecessors does work well all over.

Skyvi lets you do what you’d expect by talking to it but also a little bit more. You can send text messages, call contacts and find places by speaking to your handset but it also lets you ask it to remind you about things when your leaving a location by using the GPS on your device.

Skyvi also updates your Facebook and Twitter but not only that it will read out the latest posts on both to you. You can even ask it to like comment on or retweet posts that take your interest.

Check it out on the android market or Google Play as I’m trying to get used too! It’s free but says its only going to be free for a limited time.

Let me know what you think, is it as smooth with your voice as it is with mine?

Audible.com – Let your books speak to you!

I set myself a goal this year of reading something at least 45 minutes a day. I’ve probably had a 50% success rate but it becomes harder and harder, week after week with unexpected interruptions or matters that I have to prioritise ahead of reading. I’ve been trialing a new service from Audible.com and it’s great!

I use LoveFilm for renting movies and I received an Audible flyer in with one of my deliveries. The 30 days free trial with one free audiobook swayed me to check it out.

Audible can be used with ITunes and the majority of mp3 players. If your like me and like to keep all your audio, video and ebooks in one place its good news, Audible has an app for Apple, Android and Blackberry devices!

There is a vast library of audiobooks to choose from, categories include Biographies, Comedy, Crime and Thrillers, Education, Health, History, Languages, Science Fiction and Sports.

Audible is an Amazon company so if you already have an Amazon account it literally take ten seconds to link your account to set up.

I’ve found it much more productive multi tasking and listening to books I want to read whilst I’m exercising, browsing the internet, cooking or whatever else I find myself getting up to.

When I do find the time to read I still find myself preferring to multitask, and listen to the book (often read by the actual author) than read myself. I still read the newspapers but you could always listen to the Wall Street Journal if your really hooked!

Zazzle.com – Personalise gifts, phone covers, shirts and more!

Since creating my logo with fiverr I’ve wanted to find somewhere I can print it on shirts, bags and other accessories without having to batch produce but still at affordable prices.

Zazzle is really easy to use and I’ve found it quite quick loading each page and updating inbetween designing different products. What I’ve found in the past with alot of the ‘create your own product’ sites are that they work very slowly or are difficult to achieve your desired look with.

Here are a few examples of what it offers you to customize:

I’ve ordered a few things and I’ll share with you the finished products when I receive them! Have you used Zazzle? What have you ordered from them? Send your pictures to ben@cloudklein.com!

Join.Me – Instantly share your computer screen… free! View it on IPad, Iphone and Android!

Condolences to mahogany conference tables everywhere and a story that didn’t need to be told?

I work in Guildford and today I was asked to travel away from my unit to Reading, this takes 30-40 minutes depending on the stops you have to make. I was going to be shown a new sales and wages forecasting tool by a fellow manager in the company I work for.

Before it can be rolled out across the country, it needs to be tested and prove to be more productive than our current methods. Another manager in my area and I were asked to be the guinea pigs.

It cost the business for my time and my travel for a thirty minute briefing into this new tool. I also missed my train by just one minute on my return journey which left me stuck there for even longer. Three hours after I set off it was home time!

The new tool couldn’t have been talked about over the phone without seeing the same screen and pointer because of the complexity of it. There isn’t a user guide for it yet either as it’s still being trialled.

However, if we had used join.me we could have all watched the same screen and used it messenger service to communicate as we went!

As they say or their website “Get everybody on the same page, when they’re not in the same room, instantly. Review documents and designs. Train staff. Demo products or just show off. join.me is a ridiculously simple screen sharing tool for meetings on the fly.”

Join.me works in 5 simple steps:

1) The host downloads the hosting software (this takes 1 minute to setup)

2) Once setup, click the ‘share your screen with others’ button

3) Your line is setup and you are given a nine digit code.

4) Share the code with the people you want to see your screen

5) The other uses type the code into the ‘join’ option on the join.me homepage.

DONE!

On the free version you can have up to a massive 250 people viewing your screen. You can share who’s controlling the screen. The chat feature allows anyone in the meeting to chat simultaneously via messenger. You can send files whilst in them meeting to other watchers.

One of the biggest advantages to join.me – It supports IPad, IPhone and Android! So when you’re on the move as long as you have a connection you can view the same screen! Genius.

The Pro version offers some extra cool features that you can try out for free on a 14 day trial but to be honest with you the free version is great anyway!

The next time I can save myself the time and expense of having to view a screen in person, I will with this great site!

Do you have anything to say about Join.Me?

Fiverr.com – Three examples of what Fiverr can do for you.

In my last post I talked about Fiverr.com. A website that gives its community a place to buy and sell services for just $5. In my post today I’ll share with you the three services I tried out and the results I got.

THE LOGO

First up I thought I would experiment with a logo designer for Cloud Klein. I browsed through a few sellers and found someone who had no previous feedback but had a great description of the service they were providing .

Unfortunately after ordering and waiting for the 5 day delivery period to expire I had received nothing. My payment was held by Paypal so it was simple in holding onto my funds and trying to find someone who was actually going to deliver what I was asking for! Enter advertiser_seo.

I will create 4 CREATIVE corporate logo Designs for your website, blog, business or company for $5

I gave advertiser_seo a brief description of what I was looking for in terms of colours and style and within the promised delivery time received four logo’s with different effects (black/white/clear backgrounds):

I liked one of the logo’s so I just asked for the font style to be changed to something where the ends to the text were less rounded. Within about half an hour I was given the finished thing. Very good communicating with me through the whole process and making sure the ammendments I wanted were made.

For $5 (£3.35) I’m happy, considering the time I saved myself here playing around with picture/paint editors its saved me some time and trouble. Compared to what you would pay for a full time professional its great.  I’ll be adding this to the site sometime soon!

THE VOICE RECORDING

In the coming months I am planning to launch the Cloud Klein podcast – more news on this to follow in the next few weeks!

An important part of any podcast is to have your signature intro so that its easy for your audience to identify with you from the rest of the crowd. I found this sound from chrishardy which will form part of my audio stamp for the podcast.

I love the sound and Chris was able to deliver this to me in under 12 hours! Great Stuff!

I will sing your name in 4 part harmony for $5

THE INTRO VIDEO

As I look to use all the channels of the internet to share my posts, I thought I’d find someone to create a short video that I could upload to YouTube. I found a style that I liked and I think you’ll agree that ervindesign has done a great job for the money.

One mistake was made with the initial wording but after dropping him a message it was changed and resent to me within 24 hours. I’ve noticed the YouTube video repeats itself unlike the original mp4 file but I’ll worry about this later.

I will create a wonderful clouds video that never seen before for $5

TO SUM UP

I think that Fiverr.com has some top sellers out there waiting to provide some really cool and interesting services. My advice would be to always try and use someone with a previously rated service so your not dissappointed with the results or complete lack of. I’ll be using them again for sure!
